Thanksgiving has arrived which means it’s pie season. What makes this holiday so great is that it’s socially acceptable to devour as much pie as you want. You can make this Thanksgiving even better by adding the perfect glass of wine with your dessert. Whether you’re hosting dinner or visiting family members, here are the best wines to pair with pies.

pumpkin-pie1. Let’s start off with the infamous pumpkin pie. Bring out the sweeter side of the pumpkin pie, by pairing it with Novelty Hill 2014 Late Harvest Semillon Columbia Valley. The spices of the pie will complement the wine’s fruity taste of ripe pineapple and peach.

pecan-pie2. Moving on to the sweeter side of things, the pecan bourbon pie goes well with Cairdean Estate 2011 Zinfandel Dessert Wine Napa Valley wine. With a pie that contains a lot of crunch, the wine’s rich chocolate and blackberry element will please the taste buds.

apple-pie3. The classic warm apple pie meets its perfect wine match with the Husch 2013 Estate Late Harvest Gewurztraminer Anderson Valley. The exotic wine’s taste of pineapple, apricot, and honey combined with the pies apples is a match made in heaven.

canberry-pie4. The tart cranberries in the cranberry-pear pie go well with Chehalem 2015 Ridgecrest Vineyard Sext Riesling Ribbon Ridge wine. The wine brings out the pear flavor and evens out the tartness from the cranberries with its fruity taste. The wine is spritzy and has hints of lemon tea, orange blossoms, and pineapple.

blueberry-pie5. Blueberry pie is best served with 2007 Banfi Brachetto d’Acqui Rosa Regale. It’s a sparkling pink-red wine that complements the berry’s in the pie with its ripe taste of strawberries and raspberries. The wine is sweet but not overly sweet which helps add a bit of acidity to balance out the sweetness from the pie. The sparkling wine and mouthwatering blueberry pie will leave every guest wanting more.

cherry-pie6. Get a cherry overload by pairing the cherry pie with Gamay wine. Gamay’s light red wine is known to match well with various foods and desserts. Gamay has stunning fruity and flowery aromas. An alternative to Gamay is Pinot Noir. Whichever wine you choose; they’ll both go wonderfully.
